Pediatric Occupational Therapy Services, Inc. began in April of 1993 with home and educationally based services. In the summer of 1993, the first of Dr. Glennon's outpatient clinics opened. The Fairfield office, primarily focusing on a sensory integrative approach, has grown into a full service occupational therapy practice with staff who specialize in all aspects of pediatric intervention. The Wallingford office, which opened in the summer of 1996, began as a coordinated effort with between physical and occupational therapy. The name of the organization was changed to the Center for Pediatric Therapy to reflect the mission and services of our offices.

The Staff

The staff at CPT focus their professional energies on pediatric issues. Each therapist participates in advanced training through professional seminars and educational programs. Many therapists possess advanced certifications in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT), the Administration and Interpretation of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT), and Board Certification as a pediatric specialist from the American Occupational Therapy Association (BCP). Many therapists have over 15 years experience in pediatric therapy demonstrating a commitment to children with special needs.

Specialty certifications:

  • NDT pediatric certification requires an intensive eight-week session, forty hours per week.
  • NDT advanced pediatric certification requires an additional three week session.
  • SIPT certification requires several specialized courses, followed by a comprehensive exam and observation by national instructor.
  • THERAPEUTIC LISTENING Certificate requires initial coursework. In addition, advanced training occurs in the form of an intensive one-week practicum in Wisconsin.
  • INTERACTIVE METRONOME certification requires intensive training and submitting protocols to the Interactive Metronome organization.
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Occupational Therapy requires a comprehensive, national exam. In order to sit for the exam, the therapist must have a minimum of five years pediatric experience and meet several specific criteria (i.e., teaching experience, advanced certifications in specific practice areas).

The company's commitment to professional development is enhanced by each therapist's area of expertise. Mentoring, supervision, collaboration, case conferencing, and formal training foster the exchange of ideas and promote each therapist's ability to clinically reason on an advanced level. For therapists who are continually seeking to advance their skills, each of these experiences is considered critical to providing children with optimal intervention and support.
